Thailand’s Not Ruined (Yet).
My husband and I came to Thailand for our honeymoon 15 years ago.
It was breathtaking, idyllic and stunning. We were 23 years old, and we are all about adventure and getting as far away as possible from the humdrum of grey U.K. life as possible. We enjoyed 5 days and nights of newly wedded bliss on Koh Tao before backpacking up to Chang Mai for a couple of weeks.
Fast forward 15 years, an international move, 3 babies, a career change and a bit of a rough couple of years-gone-by, we decided it was finally time to return. (We had saved up for ages, and my 3 boys had been flicking through our wedding album and asking to go to ‘tie-island’ ever since they could talk.)
Side note: I remember when I was pregnant with my first son, for some reason my husband and planning a trip to China and Cambodia. We thought we could quite easily spend the summer of my maternity leave backpacking with a 1 year old baby. And maybe we could have. But we didn’t. Because, quite simply, it seemed far too much like hard work. So our dreams of Asian adventures with our baby gurgling happily in a back back, weren’t to be. Instead, we were quite happy to spend that particular summer in local parks and feeding the ducks. Lame. But lovely.
Anyway, its safe to say that Thailand had gotten under my skin and now with hindsight I’m REALLY glad I waited 15 years to go back with older kids, and didn’t attempt it with littles.
